let’s talk about mental health

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so I’m coming out of my lack of inspiration (among other things) to join other bloggers in discussing mental health. I have dealt with anxiety and depression since I was a child. (I later learned that everyone in my family does to some extent; my uncle gave me books about writing as a kid to try to help me, although I was kind of...

I got a job!

I promised more on IG, so since I’m up way early on a Sunday, here I am. I got a job! I actually started last week, but it’s been a pretty exhausting few days. I can’t give too many details due to security/privacy, but I basically work tech support for a bank, supporting a business product. No, it’s not HR, but even after all of the HR positions I applied...

perfect crockpot turkey chili

I’ll update on some personal stuff in a bit, but today we’re going to talk about thick, rich, crockpot turkey chili. It’s relatively healthy, quick to prep, and can be done for relatively little money. Throw it together the night before or the morning of, dump it in the crockpot, set it to low, and enjoy in the evening. I do the bulk of our grocery shopping at Aldi, and...

thankful

It’s been a while. I’m still working on editing our trip photos–but hey, I put up a new layout, so there’s that. If you aren’t a Facebook friend of mine, you haven’t heard that both Alan and I lost our jobs, him right before the cruise and me at the end of October (just in time for my favorite holiday and my birthday, as if being unemployed wasn’t depressing enough)....

the finish line (we bought a house!)

Finally remembered to take a picture, and yes the lawn will be mowed tomorrow. So here we are, homeowners (well, as of like two weeks ago, but it was hot and we’re exhausted/busy/still working, so here we are). Can I just say how much of a pain in the ass buying a house is? Getting your paperwork together for the bank, going to see a million houses that you forget...

three big updates

So there have been lots of things happening here lately. First:┬áback in January, we had an announcement at work that threw everything on its head. It was the opposite of what we thought we’d hear, and threw me into a depression because I was suddenly faced with having no idea what was going to happen with the future. There was a very large possibility of moving to the west coast,...

no-spend: April

via I saw this on a forum and decided that it was a really great idea for (at least) April. I’ve been pretty good with spending in March, but I definitely need to get it together even more! So, I made a list, things that I CAN spend on, and things that are not allowed: allowed – obviously basics like rent, utilities, phone, insurance, gas, etc. – necessary medications –...

eyebrow tattooing: hairstroke process

I was not blessed with thick eyebrows, and had the misfortune of growing up in the 90s when pencil-thin brows were all the rage. It was around this time that I plucked the crap out of my brows–my grandma has pictures that make me absolutely cringe–and they never grew back. A few years ago, I tried RapidLash, which didn’t work, then Latisse, which also didn’t work (turns out that you...

WoW: albino drake acquired!

This is really nerdy, but I got my albino drake mount today! This one is an achievement reward for obtaining 50 mounts. I’m kind of an achievement geek and mount/pet collector, so I was scrolling through lists of non-purchasable mounts yesterday and saw that I was only four mounts away, so off I went this morning. I think it’s a she, but I’m not sure what her name is yet....

Zenni Optical review

I have like ten posts in draft mode that I can’t seem to finish. Blah. I’ve actually been using Zenni Optical for years, since I didn’t have insurance for roughly ten years, but, you know, needed to see. I have coverage now, but I’m still pretty frugal in certain areas and don’t particularly care about brand names for glasses. I usually only wear contacts, but having a pair of glasses...
